About the Firm
California-licensed attorney and VA-accredited representative serving veterans and families throughout Los Angeles County and California.
Deric J. Washington at Law is a solo practice built on the belief that veterans, disabled individuals, and working families deserve focused, expert legal representation — not volume-driven case management.
Attorney Washington spent several years representing veterans through the UCLA Veterans Legal Clinic at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, handling complex VA disability appeals, character of discharge matters, and related administrative proceedings. That institutional experience — combined with the insight that comes from working directly with veterans navigating mental health conditions, housing instability, and systemic barriers — shaped a practice deliberately structured around individualized attention and mission-aligned representation.
The firm launched in January 2026 as a California sole proprietorship. It operates primarily in Los Angeles County with remote services available throughout California where permitted. By keeping overhead intentionally low and accepting a manageable caseload, the firm is able to provide each client with the attorney time and strategic focus their matter requires.
In addition to VA benefits representation, the firm serves clients in estate planning, probate administration, SSDI, and military discharge upgrades — a deliberately connected set of practice areas that allows the firm to address not only immediate legal needs but longer-term stability and planning concerns for the same families and communities.

"Many veterans and low-income people of color face multiple, intersecting legal and administrative problems. By combining VA benefits representation, SSDI claims, and estate planning under one roof, this firm is positioned to address not only income-replacement benefits but also long-term stability and generational wealth concerns."— Firm Mission Statement
Many of the veterans and families this firm serves have experienced significant trauma — service-connected mental health conditions, MST, combat exposure, housing instability. Effective representation in this context requires more than legal knowledge. It requires patience, cultural competence, and an understanding of how trauma affects a client's ability to communicate, organize records, and follow through on a case.
The firm's intake process, communication approach, and case pacing are all designed with these realities in mind.
The firm uses flat fees wherever appropriate, so clients know the full cost before engaging. Contingency arrangements on VA and SSDI matters align the firm's compensation with the client's outcome. There are no hidden costs, no vague estimates, and no bait-and-switch after engagement.
Fee structures are explained in plain language at the initial consultation and memorialized in a clear engagement letter.
Initial consultations are available by video, phone, or in-person appointment.
